Beyond the pass the water drops away quickly, which is what makes this stretch of coast worth fishing at all, and the Custom Pelican Fishing Boat is set up for trolling offshore. Tackle, bait and a fishfinder are on board, and the skipper rigs the lines and works the marks, so a first timer gets talked through the whole thing while an experienced angler is left to fish. Both options leave Pointe d'Esny at 06:00. The half day returns around 10:00, while the full day runs for up to eight hours and returns around 14:00 because reaching the offshore spots takes more travel time.
An early start
The group meets the skipper at Pointe d'Esny and the boat is rigged and away while the light is still soft.
Out through the pass
Beyond the reef the skipper pushes out into deeper water.
Setting the lines
Rods go out for trolling and the skipper works the marks on the fishfinder.
Playing a fish
When something takes, the skipper coaches whoever is on the rod through the fight.
Working the day
For the rest of the booked time the skipper works one mark after another, with drinks on board.

OvěřenoSalty Vibes was started in 2024 by Lucka, who runs it with his younger brothers and their parents from the south east coast. All trips depart from Pointe d'Esny Beach. The fleet comprises the Northern Boatworks Explorer 195, a Resicraft Speedboat and a Custom Pelican Fishing Boat. The programme covers full island days on the Grand Port lagoon, shorter snorkelling sessions built around the reef, and fishing inside the lagoon or offshore. Skippers speak English, French and Mauritian Creole.
