The runway flights leave from a private airstrip on the Mon Loisir sugar estate, a strip of grass in the cane fields a few minutes from Rivière du Rempart that Island Wings shares with Skydive Mauritius. The aircraft are two-seat microlights, so you sit beside the pilot with the whole north of the island opening up under the wing within moments of leaving the ground. Four flights are on offer, from twenty minutes over the Roches Noires lagoon and Île d'Ambre to a full hour that rounds Cap Malheureux, follows the north coast to Grand Baie and turns at Turtle Bay before coming home over the botanical garden at Pamplemousses.
